Natural Castille soap with peppermint is my favorite, those medicated one's you mention are for ';Dandruff'; which is a bacterial infection! However, if you don't take care of the dead cells, layers build up and then dandruff develops.
First use a natural boar's-hair brush to knock away the excess dead skin cells away from your scalp.
Shampoo everyday gently massaging the scalp (no fingernails) with the fleshy part of fingers to stimulate your natural oil production.
If your hair is longer than 5-inches then a conditioner is needed on the lower 3-inches because hair needs to be conditioned like a nice leather coat. I like the ';Aussie'; line with the kangaroo that is at Walgreens but just try different lines til you find the one that works with your skin chemistry and hair types. (thick, thin, curly straight all need different kinds of products to look good.)
I have found that cheap Suave is better than some of the pricey salon types because it is only gentle soap with no additives.
Good luck! Be well. What is a great natural shampoo for dry flaky scalp other than Tegrin or Head %26amp; Shoulders?
Tea tree oil has terpenoids, a secondary defense chemical plants use to repel bugs. It is a natural anti-fungus agent but... bit of overkill for a few dry flakes, in my opinion. Like chicken soup, doesn't hurt anything and I like it's scent. Gentle brushing, massage and shampoo should fix things :) Report Abuse
ALSO, Awapuhi shampoo/conditioner by Paul Mitchell is a great natural shampoo. Report Abuse
Try Selsun Blue, medicated or moisturizing. Always works for me.
With Head %26amp; Shoulders I was getting dry scalp as soon as I stop using it.
Selsun is the best and you can find it in Target for like $6-7
Try Selsum Blue, Walmart Brand of Head and Shoulders, or Head and Shoulders.
head and shoulders.
