From experience using it every time you wash your hair isnt good - I would use it every couple of washes, and use another thats suitable for dry hair in between. T-Gel is good lather-wise if you want to try that, its good for flaky scalps too. Hope that helps!

i got ketoconazole shampoo off my GP,
but even that does not really stop the itching and the scaly scalp.

No I would recommend you try another shampoo as in Paul Micheal a salon shampoo it is very good! sunsilk is good but it does not seem to fix hair that is damaged it just is for people with normal (not damaged hair).celtics

I'm a guy, 24 years old, and lately my scalp has been getting itchy. Not ';can't stop scratching';-itchy, but enough to be annoying.

I find that Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner work very well for itchy scalp!! Make sure u are not putting Conditioner of ANY kind on your scalp directly..only on the ends. Clean your scalp while shampooing with fingertips only..vigorously do not scrub with your nails and then after the conditioner use a nice cool rinse to get the conditioner out..good luckBest shampoo to prevent an itchy scalp?
Do you have really thick hair? I do and lots of times it's because your not rinsing all you shampoo and conditioner etc out. Also I have a very dry skin and scalp and I use a tea tree shampoo. I get it at walmart. I cannot remember the name for my life, but it works really well. I also find that if I just rinse my hair out with water instead of washing it every day it als helps. Hope your problem clears up! :)

It also widely used in dishwashing liquids, car washes (degreasers). There are many shampoos which do not contain these harsh ingredients that also foam well with natural foaming agents such as coconut which cleanse and moisturize your hair and scalp really well without damaging it. They have very moisturizing properties and can make a huge difference to improving the condition of your hair.
Also using natural oils and herbs from your garden can help to soothe your scalp...try using 10 drops of teatree (melaleauca oil) mixed in with your NON SLS shampoo to help with itching and rinse your hair with warm chamomile tea.

My scalp is dry and flaky, but not extremely so. It's not, say, dandruff level, it's just like dry skin, only on my head, where you can't put lotion. It's just dry enough to be annoying. It's not product build-up, of this I am sure, because I don't use product. Anyway, back to my question. I'm don't need dandruff shampoo, but I was wondering if Redken moisturizing shampoo+conditioner would help. However, after the war the advent of antibiotics and other man-made drugs meant that Tea Tree oil, like other natural remedies, was largely overlooked.
What it heals
Dissatisfaction with the side-effects of 20th century drugs set in during the 1970s and Tea Tree oil became popular again, but mainly in Australia. Nowadays the average Aussie household has a bottle of Tea Tree oil in their medicine cabinet and the rest of us are waking up to its amazing qualities.
There are many applications for Tea Tree oil. Taken as a mouthwash it can eliminate bad breath, gingivitis and mouth ulcers, and used as a gargle in warm water it soothes sore throats. It can be applied neat on burns, bites, cold sores, spots and rashes, or it can be diluted in the bath or on a compress for sunburn, dry skin, eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.
An effective insect repellent when dabbed on the temples, ankles and wrists, Tea Tree oil can be put in a base oil and massage into the muscles to ease rheumatism and back ache. Its antiseptic properties prevent the spread of germs and used in an oil burner, it can be inhaled to protect people from flu and fever, while easing sleep and bronchial conditions.
Head lice
Young children frequently get head lice from school, and the rest of the family are likely to get them too. Lice thrive on clean hair and it has nothing to do with being dirty. To prevent and eliminate: add 5-10ml of Tea Tree oil per 100ml of unperfumed, pH balanced organic shampoo. Massage into the scalp for 10 minutes before rinsing. Use a special comb (available from chemists) to check if lice are present, and if so, repeat treatment every two to three days as the treatment will not kill the eggs and these need to have hatched to catch them.
Bronchitis/sinusitis/colds
There are several ways in which Tea Tree oil can help. Five drops of oil can be put into a bowl of boiling hot water and inhaled for five to ten minutes 鈥?if you can bear it that long. Put 8-10 drops in the bath to encourage the body to sweat, and go to bed straight after. Keep the bath cool if body temperature is high. At bedtime three drops of oil added to base oil can be massaged into the chest, back and throat and combined with other oils like eucalyptus and lavender.
Dermatitis and eczema
Neat Tea Tree oil can be dabbed on the affected area once or twice a day. For larger areas mix 25 drops of Tea Tree oil into 100ml boiled water and apply twice a day when it has cooled. Take regular baths containing tea tree oil drops. It is important to do a patch test on the skin first. Dab some oil on to a healthy area of skin and leave for an hour to see if irritation occurs. Alternatively you could use a Tea Tree oil based hand and body lotion.

Where Tea Tree got its name
The Melaleuca Alternifolia plant was traditionally used by Aborigines to treat cuts, wounds and skin infections, by making mud packs with the crushed up leaves. The name 鈥楾ea Tree鈥?emanated from Captain Cook and the crew of HMS Endeavour who landed in Australia in 1770, picked the aromatic leaves to make a spicy and refreshing cup of tea and even brew their own beer!
As early as 1923 clinical trials in Australia proved that Tea Tree oil had antiseptic and bactericidal properties, and was 13 times as effective as carbolic which was the standard at that time. Its diverse healing qualities made it standard issue in the first aid kits in the Australian Army and Navy during World War II. However, after the war the advent of antibiotics and other man-made drugs meant that Tea Tree oil, like other natural remedies, was largely overlooked.
What it heals
Dissatisfaction with the side-effects of 20th century drugs set in during the 1970s and Tea Tree oil became popular again, but mainly in Australia. Nowadays the average Aussie household has a bottle of Tea Tree oil in their medicine cabinet and the rest of us are waking up to its amazing qualities.
There are many applications for Tea Tree oil. Taken as a mouthwash it can eliminate bad breath, gingivitis and mouth ulcers, and used as a gargle in warm water it soothes sore throats. It can be applied neat on burns, bites, cold sores, spots and rashes, or it can be diluted in the bath or on a compress for sunburn, dry skin, eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.
An effective insect repellent when dabbed on the temples, ankles and wrists, Tea Tree oil can be put in a base oil and massage into the muscles to ease rheumatism and back ache. Its antiseptic properties prevent the spread of germs and used in an oil burner, it can be inhaled to protect people from flu and fever, while easing sleep and bronchial conditions.
Head lice
Young children frequently get head lice from school, and the rest of the family are likely to get them too. Lice thrive on clean hair and it has nothing to do with being dirty. To prevent and eliminate: add 5-10ml of Tea Tree oil per 100ml of unperfumed, pH balanced organic shampoo. Massage into the scalp for 10 minutes before rinsing. Use a special comb (available from chemists) to check if lice are present, and if so, repeat treatment every two to three days as the treatment will not kill the eggs and these need to have hatched to catch them.
Bronchitis/sinusitis/colds
There are several ways in which Tea Tree oil can help. Five drops of oil can be put into a bowl of boiling hot water and inhaled for five to ten minutes 鈥?if you can bear it that long. Put 8-10 drops in the bath to encourage the body to sweat, and go to bed straight after. Keep the bath cool if body temperature is high. At bedtime three drops of oil added to base oil can be massaged into the chest, back and throat and combined with other oils like eucalyptus and lavender.
Dermatitis and eczema
Neat Tea Tree oil can be dabbed on the affected area once or twice a day. For larger areas mix 25 drops of Tea Tree oil into 100ml boiled water and apply twice a day when it has cooled. Take regular baths containing tea tree oil drops. It is important to do a patch test on the skin first. Dab some oil on to a healthy area of skin and leave for an hour to see if irritation occurs. Alternatively you could use a Tea Tree oil based hand and body lotion.

Pantine is a wax based shampoo and will cause you hair and scape to dry out. I think you should switch to Sunsilk because it cleans you hair and makes it shine nicley. I know all this because a few months ago my hair dresser told me that since I had the same problem as you. I stopped using pantine and switched to Sunsilk the problem stopped and now my hair is fine.

i went to the Body shop and bought this shampoo for dry scalp, It has ginger in it. I am not sure what it is exactly called but they can help you out. The best thing about the store is that they carry products that have NO chemicals that are bad for the environment and bad for ourselves as well. I know its a bit pricey but they almost always have sales. I bought a regular bottle of VO5 and mixed 1/3 of the dry scalp shampoo with it so it can last A LOT longer.
I use Satinique Gentle Daily Hair Shampoo %26amp; Conditioner. It has made a big difference in my hair %26amp; scalp.
Try getting Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp shampoo and conditioner.

The best thing about the store is that they carry products that have NO chemicals that are bad for the environment and bad for ourselves as well. You want a shampoo and possibly treatment that cater to dandruff and well even if you don't have dandruff or itchy scalp dandruff shampoos are usually really moisturizing and good for your hair. I have reactions to certain cheaper shampoos and all I do is scratch like one time I bought some cheap shampoo from my grocery store because it was 99 cents a bottle and my scalp itched for awhile even after I stopped using the shampoo.
If you can't treat it with special treatments your going to need to see a doctor or possibly a dermatologist.

The best things I found are below:
- A good quality multivitamin - centrum, seven seas etc. It is believed that psoriasis is flared up by stress and mineral imbalances.
- Exercise - this releases endorphins into the body, and promote a healthier body
- Quit smoking / drugs / excessive drinking - I was guilty of all 3, and now only drink socially. All 3 thrash your bodies defenses, and alcohol especially dries out your skin, making psoriasis worse.
I had it really bad at one point. Like you it was on my scalp, which is horribe and embarressing, especially at the barbers. It took around 3months of this routine to notice any effect, but them it started improving rapidly. After 2 years, I now only have it on my elbows, and the very occaisional 'spot' here and there. I don't believe that doctors have a successful treatment fot psoriasis, and make people use old and antiquated treatments, that in my experience are sticky and smelly.

He even went to a dermatologist and used several prescription shampoos and treatments from the doctor. A couple of them helped a little, but none totally worked. Then he tried the Clear-T by Dermagen and not one thing at all remains. No itching. No flakes, no build up. And he only washes his hair every three days, and it still works that great. It is the only thing that ever helped/cured his problem.

You should try Johnson's baby shampoo, that is mild %26amp; does not cause any irritation. For volume, you can try getting a hair cut in layers, when that starts growing, it gives slight curls %26amp; volume %26amp; its quite easy to maintain too. There are alot of shampoo available in market and the results which they give are almost same.It better to oil and massage you hair and sclp regularily which will not only make your hair shine but will make it healthy too.You can use garnier shampoo and its conditioners. It's called Motions at Home Lavish Conditioning Shampoo (I think!). It comes in an orange and purple bottle. It seems to get the scalp clean without drying the hair at all.
Good Remedies:
I have the same problem... here is how I have solved it to some degree. I don't use a conditioner... or a shampoo that has a conditioner in it. My sister has dry hair and scalp and I am very careful not to use her stuff...
I use just a simple gel shampoo and I wash my hair once lathering it up really good and rinsing it out first thing. Then I lather it up once again with some more and leave it in my hair and on my scalp the whole time I am showering. At the very end of the shower I take the shower (removable nozzle) and set it to a focused stream and wash away the later on my head. The extra time the soap sits on my head seems to break down any surface oils and they wash away... does the trick.
You might also want to think about doing a hot oil or deep conditioning treatment once a week or so. And/or using Neutrogena shampoo (the original) once a week.
Try it and let me know if it worked for you.

I use just a simple gel shampoo and I wash my hair once lathering it up really good and rinsing it out first thing. Then I lather it up once again with some more and leave it in my hair and on my scalp the whole time I am showering. At the very end of the shower I take the shower (removable nozzle) and set it to a focused stream and wash away the later on my head. The extra time the soap sits on my head seems to break down any surface oils and they wash away... does the trick.
You might also want to think about doing a hot oil or deep conditioning treatment once a week or so. And/or using Neutrogena shampoo (the original) once a week.

I would not use lotion just because of build up. thats why they make leave in conditioner for hair and scalp its like regular conditioner except leave in you don't rinse out and both kinds are your ';Lotion'; for the hair

Also try massaging some good oil like coconut, almond or any other that you may get in your country, in your scalp once a week and wrap your head in hot towels to allow your pores to open. Then wash with the fenugreek paste. You will see good results in a month. Your hair will be shiny and your scalp healthy. The key to keep naturally dry type of scalp free from itching is to wash it once a week or twice at the most if you must. But be sure that you oil your scalp atleast once a week before washing.

You can always just rub your scalp with some muslin between shampoos to remove grease and build-up. Wrap a piece of muslin around your finger and rub your scalp, adjusting the cloth so that you're always using a clean piece.

Also, research your baby care products as infant skin is extremely sensitive and needs to most gentle products out there. Mineral oil is actually motor oil washed several times to make it clear. These products may cause irritation and dryness and get wiped off over time and give little to no benefit but rather a temporary feeling of softness. Baby's need pure, and safe water based products with the proper ingredients.
Arbonne has a great baby care line (hair and body wash, lotion, body oil, diaper rash cream, and sunscreen) that is botanically-based and pH correct, pediatrician and dermatologist tested, non-sensitizing, non-irritating, and formulated without nut oils. And- really no one should wash their hair daily.

I guess I have combination hair- scalp gets oily and itchy really fast, while ends can get dry and knotty. I heard stuff like Kerastase's ';Bain Divalent'; or Senscience have helped some folks. many shampoos made for oily scalp unfortunately strip the hair as well. i would recommend seeing your stylist. i used to use a shampoo by matrix that needed no conditioner. it was amazing. but, if you don't want to pay top dollar i'd recommend a mild shampoo with a light spray in conditioner taking care to avoid spraying near the scalp.
oh, and avoid suave and other very low end products. they will really damage the ends of your hair.

many shampoos made for oily scalp unfortunately strip the hair as well. i would recommend seeing your stylist. i used to use a shampoo by matrix that needed no conditioner. it was amazing. but, if you don't want to pay top dollar i'd recommend a mild shampoo with a light spray in conditioner taking care to avoid spraying near the scalp.
oh, and avoid suave and other very low end products. they will really damage the ends of your hair.
How do you get rid of a dry flakey scalp without using dandruff shampoo/conditioner?

I love doing this once a week:
-Shampoo hair (or I guess you can just use water)
-Massage aloe vera gel onto the scalp, trying to avoid most of the hair
-Pour warm olive oil onto the scalp, letting it run down the ends of your hair(it's easiest to do all of this over a large sink or tub)
-Use saran wrap (plastic wrap) to cover your entire scalp and hair
-Place a shower cap over the plastic wrap then for extra insulation wrap a towel around the cap
-Leave in for 20-40 minutes
-Don't shampoo after this, just rinse
-Use a conditioner if you want

I've always had a problem with dandruff and what finally worked for me was tea tree oil. You can add it to any shampoo. 10 or 20 drops or so and mix it all together, try that and see if it works.
I used to use baby oil. I would massage my scalp with it and then shampoo it out. Now I use Neutrogea T Sal. It's amazing, but since you said you didn't want any dandruff shampoo I guess try the baby oil.
