I use oilatum treatment shampoo for my flaky and dry scalp but is it safe?

basically is it safe to use treatment shampoo's like oilatum for regular use or should i just use it when my scalp gets really dry.

Can anyone recommend a treatment shampoo that can produce the foamy lather easilyI use oilatum treatment shampoo for my flaky and dry scalp but is it safe?
out of all the many many dandruff shampoos i have used nizoral shampoo is the best. try it it's safe and works fantastic!I use oilatum treatment shampoo for my flaky and dry scalp but is it safe?
From experience using it every time you wash your hair isnt good - I would use it every couple of washes, and use another thats suitable for dry hair in between. T-Gel is good lather-wise if you want to try that, its good for flaky scalps too. Hope that helps!
i had the same prob,

i got ketoconazole shampoo off my GP,

but even that does not really stop the itching and the scaly scalp.

good luck baby!

No I would recommend you try another shampoo as in Paul Micheal a salon shampoo it is very good! sunsilk is good but it does not seem to fix hair that is damaged it just is for people with normal (not damaged hair).

    It's made by Major Pharmaceuticals.

I suffered for years until I found this stuff.

I'm not sure if you can get it in stores. Used (as directed) it stopped my itching and flaking.

I won't ever stop using it.
    Head and Shoulders?

Arbonne International sells good shampoo for scalp care and dandruff.

It's really good, but also very expensive.

Look them up, and ask for a free sample.

If you can't afford it, I guess just try some Head and Shoulders.

And then Aussie MOIST is good for moisture and softness and stuff

Best shampoo to prevent an itchy scalp?

I'm a guy, 24 years old, and lately my scalp has been getting itchy. Not ';can't stop scratching';-itchy, but enough to be annoying.

I don't think I have dandruff (never noticed it on my black shirts or anything), but maybe it's there.

Can anyone tell me which shampoo would be best to use (Head %26amp; Shoulders ,etc)?

Thanks.Best shampoo to prevent an itchy scalp?
I find that Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner work very well for itchy scalp!! Make sure u are not putting Conditioner of ANY kind on your scalp directly..only on the ends. Clean your scalp while shampooing with fingertips only..vigorously do not scrub with your nails and then after the conditioner use a nice cool rinse to get the conditioner out..good luckBest shampoo to prevent an itchy scalp?
Do you have really thick hair? I do and lots of times it's because your not rinsing all you shampoo and conditioner etc out. Also I have a very dry skin and scalp and I use a tea tree shampoo. I get it at walmart. I cannot remember the name for my life, but it works really well. I also find that if I just rinse my hair out with water instead of washing it every day it als helps. Hope your problem clears up! :)
    Definately Head and Shoulders.
For itchy scalp, pls do not use Head %26amp; Shoulders shampoo to treat it. Bcoz it contain harmful ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate, prop. glycol, formaldehyde etc... All these will irritate ur scalp further. Instead u should use 2nd Chance Sh. spray wth Eliminator (fight bacteria) and spray Replinishing Mist to keep scalp healthy %26amp; promote healthy hair. TGEL
Yep, use Head and Shoulders. Also, any tea tree oil shampoo will work.
    Head %26amp; Shoulders Intensive Solutions

for product information w/ $2 off coupon: http://www.intensivesolutions.com/us-en/
there are alot of damaging and irritating chemicals in most shampoos such as Sodium Laureth Sulphate or Sodium Lauryl Sulphate which makes shampoo foam up. It also widely used in dishwashing liquids, car washes (degreasers). It is a skin irritant (they sometimes use it in tests to irritate skin to test products) and is known to dy out our scalp, corrode hair follicles and damage your hair and it is in MOST big brand shampoos....there are others to look out for too that are potentially carcinogenic.

There are many shampoos which do not contain these harsh ingredients that also foam well with natural foaming agents such as coconut which cleanse and moisturize your hair and scalp really well without damaging it. They have very moisturizing properties and can make a huge difference to improving the condition of your hair.

Also using natural oils and herbs from your garden can help to soothe your scalp...try using 10 drops of teatree (melaleauca oil) mixed in with your NON SLS shampoo to help with itching and rinse your hair with warm chamomile tea.
My son uses a Head and Shoulds sensetive skin shampoo and it works great. Hes 12 and has always had an itchy scalp. No dandruff just itchy like you. This brand is not harsh like the normal dandruff shampoos. Its easier on your scalp.
You can always try Head %26amp; Shoulders- that's usually pretty effective.

If that doesn't work, try REDKEN Scalp Relief/Dandruff Control. (It comes in a white bottle.) I use that and it works really well for me.

Good luck and sorry your scalp's itching! Lol.
I used to have an itchy scalp but then I started using Head %26amp; Shoulders and it really worked. I would highly recommed it.
Head and Shoulders or maybe even just some herbal tea tree shampoo, this smells really nice too
redkin dandruff rid it comes with a shampoo, a conditioner, and, a gel that you put in when its wet and by morning it wont itch anymore!!!

    GL!!!
    Nizoral shampoo.
Keep it simple. You want something that suits you best and that you can depend on. Try Head %26amp; Shoulders, and if that doesn't suit you, you can move up to medicated products such as Selsun Blue, or Nizoral.

In the long run, Head and Shoulders should definetely work.

You should use Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp Care Shampoo鈩?br>

and Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp Care Conditioner, as these two work hand in hand to resolve your issue.
Head and Shoulder def. It's the best to use.

What shampoo to clear flaky scalp?

I have a flaky scalp and i wanted to know what shampoo would be the best to clear it.

many thanksWhat shampoo to clear flaky scalp?
something with tea tree oil, it worked for meWhat shampoo to clear flaky scalp?
    try sebutone shampoo
    T-Gel works for my bloke.
Certainly not head %26amp; shoulders, that propagates dandruff like no business, try Johnsons baby shampoo.
Any anti fungal shampoo-they are brilliant.Ask a chemist for one!
Head and Shoulders!!! I swear by it..and its won loads of awards as best shampoo too. Plus its cheap and can be bought in most good supermarkets (God i sound like i work for Head and Shoulders....i don't, really)
try using t-gel... that should work. also maybe use a deep hair conditioner. i have well water and my skin gets flaky sometimes and i do that and its helps.
I use Selsum Blue, I have psoriasis in my scalp and I have found it to be the best.
    head and shoulders

Will moisturizing shampoo/conditioner help with my dry scalp?

My scalp is dry and flaky, but not extremely so. It's not, say, dandruff level, it's just like dry skin, only on my head, where you can't put lotion. It's just dry enough to be annoying. It's not product build-up, of this I am sure, because I don't use product. Anyway, back to my question. I'm don't need dandruff shampoo, but I was wondering if Redken moisturizing shampoo+conditioner would help. Any other suggestions are, as always, welcome. Will moisturizing shampoo/conditioner help with my dry scalp?
T-Gel is the best one for dry scalp its not for dandruff its a tar based product that is used specifically for the scalp, I use it myself and its pretty good, its by nutrogena, hope this helps, goodluck! :)Will moisturizing shampoo/conditioner help with my dry scalp?
no the best shampoo is head and shoulders for dry scalp

    :)

Im going to buy a itchy scalp shampoo but...?

...... can i still put conditioner throughout my hair?

Or is it better to let the shampoo do its job by itself?Im going to buy a itchy scalp shampoo but...?
you should always us conditioner it's purpose is replenshing important oils back into your hair %26amp; helps maintain healthier hair. but be sure you don't rub it into your scalp like you would shampoo.Im going to buy a itchy scalp shampoo but...?
yaa.actually the conditioner must not be applied to the scalp as it weakens the roots of ur hair.so,if ur gonna use that shampoo, the conditioner may not affect it.U can use it without any worry dear!
Use both. The conditioner is like a lotion for your scalp so it will probably help with the itchiness.

Try Paul Mitchell Tea Tree. It tingles, but the tea tree has very soothing properties and helps soothe itchy heads!!
    yeah its alright.

my mom uses Pert Plus/Head%26amp;Shoulders and whatever conditioner she has and it helps her.

  • For an itchy scalp, can mostly any of these oils be added to the tea tree shampoo?

    jojoba

    basil

    lavender

    peppermint

    rosemary

    neem

and doesnt it matter how MUCH is put into the shampoo and how often you use it?For an itchy scalp, can mostly any of these oils be added to the tea tree shampoo?
If you're putting these into the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo, you can actually read the ingredients on the bottle to see if it contains any of those ingredients.

I know they have a Lavender Mint shampoo (moisturizing) and a Lemon Sage (thickening) shampoo. I'm not sure what's in the Special, though.

And I wouldn't add anything to a shampoo, just because it may decrease the effectiveness of the shampoo.

Good luck, and I hope you figure it out!

i have tried t-gel, polytar, alphosyl but they haven't worked. What is the best shampoo to use on dry itchy flakey scalp.?
everyones haid is different, head and shoulders is popular, go to your local supermarket and see what they have, some of the own brand ones are actually better than the big brand ones but it all depends on YOUR scalp, if you cant sort it out, then try going to your doctor maybe. What is the best shampoo to use on dry itchy flakey scalp.?
    Hi Steven,

You could try Tea Tree anti-dandruff shampoo.

Here is some information on tea tree which may be of some help to you.

    Tea Tree Oil 鈥?Nature鈥檚 Healer

Everyone's heard of Tea Tree oil now but are the full range of its amazing properties well known?

Aborigines have recognised its healing qualities for hundreds of years, it鈥檚 natural and it can heal cuts and burns, boils and warts, athlete鈥檚 foot and thrush, and boost the immune system. It is antiseptic, a fungicide, fights bacteria and viruses, has anti-inflammatory qualities, expectorant and balsamic characteristics. It is a natural household disinfectant and insecticide and can even be used as a household cleaner.

Tea Tree oil, distilled from the leaves of the Melaleuca Alternifolia plant found in Australia, is a complex chemical substance made up of almost 50 chemical compounds. The oil is pale yellow and has a pungent medicinal smell.

The Tea Tree plant is a spindly shrub with soft, bright green needle-like leaves, and tiny cream or yellow flowers. It is native to swampy areas of New South Wales, but as demand has grown more plantations have been cultivated in the same part of Australia. As the healing properties of Tea Tree oil become more and more recognised, it is fast becoming a massive industry.

While Australia is at the forefront of this industry, other countries that have begun to produce the plant include Zimbabwe, New Zealand, and Ecuador.

Where Tea Tree got its name

The Melaleuca Alternifolia plant was traditionally used by Aborigines to treat cuts, wounds and skin infections, by making mud packs with the crushed up leaves. The name 鈥楾ea Tree鈥?emanated from Captain Cook and the crew of HMS Endeavour who landed in Australia in 1770, picked the aromatic leaves to make a spicy and refreshing cup of tea and even brew their own beer!

As early as 1923 clinical trials in Australia proved that Tea Tree oil had antiseptic and bactericidal properties, and was 13 times as effective as carbolic which was the standard at that time. Its diverse healing qualities made it standard issue in the first aid kits in the Australian Army and Navy during World War II. However, after the war the advent of antibiotics and other man-made drugs meant that Tea Tree oil, like other natural remedies, was largely overlooked.

    What it heals

Dissatisfaction with the side-effects of 20th century drugs set in during the 1970s and Tea Tree oil became popular again, but mainly in Australia. Nowadays the average Aussie household has a bottle of Tea Tree oil in their medicine cabinet and the rest of us are waking up to its amazing qualities.

There are many applications for Tea Tree oil. Taken as a mouthwash it can eliminate bad breath, gingivitis and mouth ulcers, and used as a gargle in warm water it soothes sore throats. It can be applied neat on burns, bites, cold sores, spots and rashes, or it can be diluted in the bath or on a compress for sunburn, dry skin, eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.

An effective insect repellent when dabbed on the temples, ankles and wrists, Tea Tree oil can be put in a base oil and massage into the muscles to ease rheumatism and back ache. Its antiseptic properties prevent the spread of germs and used in an oil burner, it can be inhaled to protect people from flu and fever, while easing sleep and bronchial conditions.

    Head lice

Young children frequently get head lice from school, and the rest of the family are likely to get them too. Lice thrive on clean hair and it has nothing to do with being dirty. To prevent and eliminate: add 5-10ml of Tea Tree oil per 100ml of unperfumed, pH balanced organic shampoo. Massage into the scalp for 10 minutes before rinsing. Use a special comb (available from chemists) to check if lice are present, and if so, repeat treatment every two to three days as the treatment will not kill the eggs and these need to have hatched to catch them.

    Bronchitis/sinusitis/colds

There are several ways in which Tea Tree oil can help. Five drops of oil can be put into a bowl of boiling hot water and inhaled for five to ten minutes 鈥?if you can bear it that long. Put 8-10 drops in the bath to encourage the body to sweat, and go to bed straight after. Keep the bath cool if body temperature is high. At bedtime three drops of oil added to base oil can be massaged into the chest, back and throat and combined with other oils like eucalyptus and lavender.

    Dermatitis and eczema

Neat Tea Tree oil can be dabbed on the affected area once or twice a day. For larger areas mix 25 drops of Tea Tree oil into 100ml boiled water and apply twice a day when it has cooled. Take regular baths containing tea tree oil drops. It is important to do a patch test on the skin first. Dab some oil on to a healthy area of skin and leave for an hour to see if irritation occurs. Alternatively you could use a Tea Tree oil based hand and body lotion.

yes =) i love it because my scalp is usually burning from my hair getting dyed so when they take the stuff out %26amp; massage the scalp it feels good.DOES YOUR HAIRDRESSER MASSAGE YOUR SCALP AT THE SHAMPOO BASIN?
Yes, this increases the blood flow to your head which can relieve you from stress. And makes the customer happy and then may want to come again..

It also helps by increasing the blood flow around the scalp and skin.Making chances dandruff lower.

What kind of shampoo can I use for dry scalp thats safe on colored hair?!?

I don't know what to do, I have really dry scalp and it flakes and itches, and then it scabs over and its so gross. The problem is I can't use dandruff shampoo like head %26amp; shoulders etc. because I highlight my hair and it will ruin the color and my regular color safe shampoo doesnt do anything for the dryness. What can I use??What kind of shampoo can I use for dry scalp thats safe on colored hair?!?
I don't know why Head and Shoulders ruins your color. Cause that's what I was using when I was highlighting my hair.

Which shampoo is good for dry scalp?

I don't know what to try. I currently use the Victoria's Secret shampoos and conditioners. I try to use Head %26amp; Shoulder's every other day to help with the itch. However, I always feel these little things on my scalp that I have to scratch! I am sure it's not lice. Please help and/or ask me questions.Which shampoo is good for dry scalp?
I would stick w/ one specialized for the dry scalp. H%26amp;S would be good, or a super moisturizing one that states for dry hair/scalp. Keep using it and don't switch off. Maybe a super conditioner-intensive conditioner afterwards too. Vict. Secret to me is a just whole lot of chemicals and fragrance.Which shampoo is good for dry scalp?
It's probably dandruff or buildup. Make sure to scratch really hard when you shampoo your head. Keep using head and shoulders and also add some tee tree oil for dandruff. It's probably the weather change since it's getting colder. Don't worry your scalp will start to get used to it!
herbal eccenses is awesome! i have thick , dry, damaged hair and it makes it shiny and healthy. also you can ask a stylist or a someone like that
    Hello,

I like Head and shoulders smooth and silky. It is my favorite and it makes the hair shine. My sister started me using it and now I am addicted, LOL. Read about it!

    Good Luck!
Try Neutrogena T-gel - smells like coal tar, but it works! They also have one called t-scalp (or something like that) that doesn't smell as bad.

  • Can your skin dry out on your face & scalp if you shampoo your hair too much!?

I shampoo my hair every day in a basin and then i take my shower and shampoo again twice! Is that bad for my hair? Can your skin dry out on your face %26amp; scalp if you shampoo your hair too much!?
SHAMPOOING OFTEN IS NOT BAD. THE WAY YOU DO IT IS IMPORTANT. USE VERY LITTLE SHAMPOO. DILUTE, DILUTE, DILUTE. apply SHAMPOO ONly on THE ROOTS. THE REST WILL CLEAN WITH THE RINSE. and dont forget to condition. (not the roots, the rest of the hair). Can your skin dry out on your face %26amp; scalp if you shampoo your hair too much!?
Yes. You're only supposed to wash your hair every other day to help keep in the natural oils your hair needs to be healthy.
Shampooing too much can strip your hair of it's natural oils and damage will occur. It's alright to want to be clean but doing it as much as you do seems unnecessary!
only if you use cheap shampoo!

If the skin comes of the reason might be a hormonal issue

Is dry shampoo good for your scalp?

My hair has been falling out recently and its because i have to straighten my hair. i straighten my hair to and i have not heard of it falling out on any of my friends or on my either i think u might need to see the doctor about that(sorry i couldn't be of more help)

Shampoo for oily scalp and color treated hair?

I am looking for a shampoo for someone who has an oily scalp but dry, damaged, color-treated hair. I cannot seem to find a shampoo/conditioner duo that can evenly balance both! Any help???Shampoo for oily scalp and color treated hair?
Okay that will be a problem. There isnt a shampoo that is good for both but i can give you two AMAZING shampoos that can help both of those!

I have clients all the time asking me these questions.

For Oily hair try Rockaholic dry shampoo from the Tigi line it helps absorb oily hair and you dont even need to shower for this one.

Now for the damaged colored hair: Redken Color Extend or Extreme.

The Color Extend will help save her color as well as repair and refresh her hair and color!

The Extreme is to help her dry brittle hair and make it soft and full!

for color treated hair try something with a color guard so the dye won't get ruined

for oily and dry scalp use head and shoulders. i have the same problem as you and this shampoo really helps

if your looking for both try pantene or herbal essences hydrolicious
If you have oily hair then you need to find a shampoo/conditioner that is for daily clarifying for all types of hair.Suave is very good for this .I have color treated hair as well and mine is also oily, this is what I use.

What's a good shampoo for frizzy hair and a sensitive scalp?

Recently i bought head and shoulders shampoo and even though it did quench my frizz and made my scalp feel nice it also made my hair greasy even though i wash it everyday. what shampoo makes the scalp feel tingly and not cool whilst leaving my hair shiny and frizz free? price is not really an issue. Thanking you in advance. What's a good shampoo for frizzy hair and a sensitive scalp?
I knew someone who couldn't use two-in-one shampoo nad conditioner coz it made her hair greasy. Try using seperate ones - head and shoulders do them seperate now, and as someone else said, try only washing it twice or three times a week, or maybe every other day. What's a good shampoo for frizzy hair and a sensitive scalp?
I'm not sure, but don't wash your hair every day.

That's whats making it greasy. Twice or three times a week will be fine.
I've worked in alot of salons and the product that i can say tou need is Tea Tree by Paul Mitchell. This stuff will give you that nice tingly feeling and it's main focus is scalp sensitivity. As far as a greasy scalp, you have to use a shampoo that is transparent or see-through like a gel. A creamy shampoo will add to the greasyness...And just as a tip, stay away from sodium lauryl sulfate in shampoo because it'll iritate the scalp more. So when you buy a shampoo also make sure its sulfate free...Good luck!

What is a good over-the-counter shampoo for dry scalp? (besides Selsun Blue and Head and Shoulders...)?

neutrogena, check it out! Much better than those other brands. It costs a little more but a bottle lasts forever

Does water dry up your scalp or shampoo?

i don't like washing my hair every day because i heard it dries up your scalp but i have to wet my hair before combing %26amp; styling it %26amp; then put moose %26amp; gel in it. but im worried is putting water in it [but not shampoo] gonna dry up my scalp or damage my hair??Does water dry up your scalp or shampoo?
Isn't water wet?Does water dry up your scalp or shampoo?
you have to watch what shampoo you buy. alot of cheap shampoo's and daily clarifying shampoo's will strip the moisture from you hair and make you itch like crazy. when you buy shampoo just make sure you get something that says it puts moisture back in your hair or something like that.
No, the mousse will make your scalp dryer. If you are not washing your hair between adding more mousse, you will get a build up.

Hair is hygroscopic and actually benefits from adding water.
    shampoo dries up your hair.

The chemicals in it if used to much take all the mositure out of your hair...water does nothing to it.

i was using pantine for a couple of months and i noticed my head was itching.so i thought maybe i'd swich.(i dont have lice)Why does pantine make my head itch so BAD?And is bed head shampoo good for your scalp/hair?
Pantine is a wax based shampoo and will cause you hair and scape to dry out. I think you should switch to Sunsilk because it cleans you hair and makes it shine nicley. I know all this because a few months ago my hair dresser told me that since I had the same problem as you. I stopped using pantine and switched to Sunsilk the problem stopped and now my hair is fine.

Good Luck!!Why does pantine make my head itch so BAD?And is bed head shampoo good for your scalp/hair?
I don't know why Pantene is making your head itch..I haven't used it in years but during the time I used it, I never had a problem. Now I use Dove and it is really good! I don't know anything about Bed Head..I've never used it but I might try it soon! I heard it is really good.
BECAUSE!!!!! pantene is a bad shampoo and conditioner to use everyon needs to know this stop buyinh pantene it's full of floor WAX!!!!!!!! bedhead is much better and is realy salon shampoos and what not i use bedhead styling prducts yes bedhead is good for the hair and scalp!!!!!
Suave is the best non salon shampoo/conditioner.
Probably because Pantene has alcohol in it, and it is probably drying out your scalp. Yes Bed Head is good. I would use the Dumb Blonde. Very moisturizing.

    all of them work excellently

for dry hair i recommend either their new line Hydrlicious. Comes in all sorts of varieties. Ive never used it, but have extreme trust in all herbal essences, although ive heard the conditioner doesn't work that well for this kind...

So you could also try one from their original line Hello Hydration,

Comes with shampoo and conditioner are really cheap, but work great. Just read the back and it will tell you what it does and how to use it

    hope this helps
well my favourite is the pantene moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

tip: don't apply conditioner on the roots of your hair, your hair wont have as much volume and will get greasyer faster.
i went to the Body shop and bought this shampoo for dry scalp, It has ginger in it. I am not sure what it is exactly called but they can help you out. The best thing about the store is that they carry products that have NO chemicals that are bad for the environment and bad for ourselves as well. I know its a bit pricey but they almost always have sales. I bought a regular bottle of VO5 and mixed 1/3 of the dry scalp shampoo with it so it can last A LOT longer.
I use Satinique Gentle Daily Hair Shampoo %26amp; Conditioner. It has made a big difference in my hair %26amp; scalp.
Try getting Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp shampoo and conditioner.

It really works! It starts at your roots to moisturize them, then it goes all the way down for a shiny soft healthy look. Hope this helps! xoxo
Try Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo and condition. Thats what i recommend for my clients
Head and shoulders, it cleans scalp but I don't think it can moisturize it. Try using some oils after you take a bath to your scalp.

What is the best shampoo for an itchy scalp?

I've been a licensed cosmetologist for 7 years, you need to use Nioxin Scalp Therapy, It's a cleanser for you scalp and it feels magnificent after the first use, the shampoo is great too. It's a bit costly, but these are professional products and you get what you pay for. You can buy this at Cost Cutters, Fantastic Sams or other professional salons. What is the best shampoo for an itchy scalp?
head and shoulders intensive treatment. It has the same active ingredient as selsum blue but at a much cheaper price. What is the best shampoo for an itchy scalp?
    Neutrogena T-gel shampoo.
In my opion a shampoo with Tea Tree oil. Also I know it sounds gross, but mix eggs and mayonayse together. Put it on your scalp about 10 mins before you take a shower, and cover with a plastic bag so you don't smell it. It works for me, and also makes your hair look better.
its winter and your scalp is dry from the heating in the house .change your shampoo once in awhile the 2 in one shampoos are great for winter
    Pantain.
try rinsing your hair with beer/soda water and use mild shampoo like Clairol herbal essences.Cos if you frequently wash your hair, you're striping your hair off natural hair oil.Which causes itching as it dries your scalp.I used to use XXXX brand to wash my hair everyday after work as it smells of food and smoke but after a few wks I realise it gets itchy and my hair starts falling more.So i switch to Clairol and use that for everyday washing.

I've heard about Head%26amp;Shoulder's from alot of people, but that just seems so cheap and I'd like something nice and delicious-smelling. over the past 2 years we used alot of shampoos on my sisters hair for dandruff and when we started her on Selsun Blue she doesnt even itch her hair anymore I would suggest Selsun Blue it really really works and her hair got longer as well it in her back flowing i suggest Selsun Blue
    you should try keracare

What kind of shampoo can I use? Every time I wash my hair, my scalp itches to the point of madness.?

(Please; personal experience only, no answers based on what you've seen advertised; we all know advertisers lie.)What kind of shampoo can I use? Every time I wash my hair, my scalp itches to the point of madness.?
it might be your shampoo in general. Shampoo drys out you scalp. I would get wen cucumber aloe, which is a cleansing conditioner. What kind of shampoo can I use? Every time I wash my hair, my scalp itches to the point of madness.?
It sounds like you either have dandruff/dry scalp or a reaction to what you are currently using. You want a shampoo and possibly treatment that cater to dandruff and well even if you don't have dandruff or itchy scalp dandruff shampoos are usually really moisturizing and good for your hair. I have reactions to certain cheaper shampoos and all I do is scratch like one time I bought some cheap shampoo from my grocery store because it was 99 cents a bottle and my scalp itched for awhile even after I stopped using the shampoo.

If you can't treat it with special treatments your going to need to see a doctor or possibly a dermatologist.

I used Nature's Gate for awhile it was available at GNC but GNC stopped selling it I think but you can usually find it at a herbal remedy or health food store or in larger grocery stores that have a health food section also you can get it on Amazon.com I think that's usually where I find hard to find botanical products. (You could even try a different brand like GNC sells Mill Creek Aloe Vera shampoo that might help Aloe is a good moisturizer and natural shampoos are usually better for you.)

Also a good sulphate free shampoo is Back To Basics blue lavender one for colored hair its sold at salons like cost cutters and is sulphate free because they are the thing in shampoo that makes your hair sudsy but they also are the thing that strips the color the fastest.
make sure that you rinse all of the shampoo out of your hair then use a conditioner. you can use a clarifying shampoo many name brands make them. you may be allergic to any extra dyes and/ or perfumes in other types of shampoo. good luck.
Try some of the Simple range - their stuff is fragrance free and perfume free etc. so it's great for sensitive skin. I haven't used their hair products, but I use lots of their skin care stuff, and I've had no problems with it.
i like head and shoulders. the reason why your scalp is itching is because its dry. find a good moisturizer and you will be good to go
Neutrogena T Gel therapeutic shampoo it has pine tar in it, check it out on line, and just after a few shampoos you will notice the difference
Head and shoulders! or go to a salon and see what they recommend for you..

xoxxo TaylaCan anyone recommend a shampoo for very greasy hair with a sensitive scalp?
maybe you have ruined your hair by washing it everyday. that can make it worse. baby shampoo or the old prell that came back out is good for taking oils out of hair. be careful about the every day wash, that can make it more greasy.
Same here. I use Pantene. Just the classic: http://www.pantene.com/en-US/product/classiccare_classiccleanshampoo.jspx

Scalp psoriasis suffererers, what is the difference between Polytar and Polytar AF shampoo?

I have been dealing with psoriasis for 32 years and the best medication that I have used is Dermarest from Wal-Mart for $6. Believe me I have tried all the expensive medications and this works better.

For the scalp I have discovered that Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment Dandruff Shampoo works well and cost about $5.

Scalp psoriasis suffererers, what is the difference between Polytar and Polytar AF shampoo?
Hi, I've had it now for about 6 years. I tried every prescription drug going and to no avail. Anything that was steroid based only works when you use it, and I found it usually returned much worse when I stopped using it.

The best things I found are below:

    - A good quality multivitamin - centrum, seven seas etc. It is believed that psoriasis is flared up by stress and mineral imbalances.

    - Exercise - this releases endorphins into the body, and promote a healthier body

    - Quit smoking / drugs / excessive drinking - I was guilty of all 3, and now only drink socially. All 3 thrash your bodies defenses, and alcohol especially dries out your skin, making psoriasis worse.

I had it really bad at one point. Like you it was on my scalp, which is horribe and embarressing, especially at the barbers. It took around 3months of this routine to notice any effect, but them it started improving rapidly. After 2 years, I now only have it on my elbows, and the very occaisional 'spot' here and there. I don't believe that doctors have a successful treatment fot psoriasis, and make people use old and antiquated treatments, that in my experience are sticky and smelly.

    Hope this helps.

Scalp psoriasis suffererers, what is the difference between Polytar and Polytar AF shampoo?
I don't know but I never found that Polytar worked very well, so if this is a new one I would like to know what it's like.

Is there a way I can wash my scalp w/o wasting shampoo?

Id like to be able to really wash and scrub my scalp, but in order to do that I need more shampoo. is there another way without using too much shampoo? Is there a way I can wash my scalp w/o wasting shampoo?
the lather doesn't make a real difference my stylist say but you can do this wet your hair and add a small hand fall then really scrub your scalp for like 10 to 15 min then rinse and repeat but with less shampooIs there a way I can wash my scalp w/o wasting shampoo?
how much shampoo are you using? do you have a shampoo that is a low lather shampoo? a low lather shampoo can make it feel like your hair isnt getting clean because its not meant to have lots of lather like most shampoos. but if thats not the case, then you really dont need to use more then a quarter size amount of shampoo.

Tee tree shampoo works for me if I start getting an itchy or flaky scalp. It also smells good and it tingles. Great as a body wash too.
Go to a beauty shop or beauty supply store and get Clear-T therapeutic scalp shampoo. My husband suffered for over 30 years with itchy scalp, sometimes flaky and sometimes the flakes would build up so fast it actually built up to a thick coat. He tried all the over the counter shampoos for dandruf, the special oc ones like Scalpacin (sorry about the spelling, am on special pain med), and those kind. He even went to a dermatologist and used several prescription shampoos and treatments from the doctor. A couple of them helped a little, but none totally worked. Then he tried the Clear-T by Dermagen and not one thing at all remains. No itching. No flakes, no build up. And he only washes his hair every three days, and it still works that great. It is the only thing that ever helped/cured his problem.

You should try Johnson's baby shampoo, that is mild %26amp; does not cause any irritation. For volume, you can try getting a hair cut in layers, when that starts growing, it gives slight curls %26amp; volume %26amp; its quite easy to maintain too. There are alot of shampoo available in market and the results which they give are almost same.It better to oil and massage you hair and sclp regularily which will not only make your hair shine but will make it healthy too.You can use garnier shampoo and its conditioners. Oriflam has also have good range of hair care products. and results are good.

With a dry scalp, you might not want to wash your hair everyday. Unless it's absolutely necessary, you can get away with washing your hair every other day. This will help to keep your scalp from becoming too dry. It's also important to use a pure water based shampoo and conditioner that will deeply condition not only your hair but also provide the most beneficial ingredients for a healthy scalp. Arbonne has a great self adjusting daily shampoo and conditioner are formulated with natural tree oil. Native to Australia, tea tree oil is known as “The wonder from down under.” :-) This natural, super-potent oil treats dry, flaky scalp, so that both the head and hair are left nourished, and flake-free. It's botanically based without alcohol, wax, dyes, chemicals, fragrances, acetone, and mineral oil formulated with key ingredients including nanospheres, nettle, hops, sage and thyme extracts, vitamins A, C, E. If you're interested in learning more, I'll be happy to help you. What shampoo and conditioner is good for very dry and itchy scalp?
yes my youngest has psoriasis and gets nasty scabby looking chunks on his scalp.I've tried everything. The only thing I've found that works is:DERMAREST psoriasis shampoo bought at Walmart. It's kinda expensive, but,It works very good.He used it everyday for a week and the scabs went away. Now he uses it once a week.
my mother in law uses polytar shampoo cos she suffers from that .. she said it really helps.so y not give that a try
Polytar is the best for eczema and psoriasis. It is cheaper than Neutrogena T-Gel and you get more of it. It is sold in most chemists.
head and shoulders. use selsum blue too but the smell of the sulfur in the shampoo will stay for a few days.
A dermatologist says a coconut shampoo is good for troubled scalps.

Sorry, I don't remember the name of it.

Ask your pharmacy they might be able to help.
I have the same problems with an itchy scalp, and the only shampoo that i ever use and have never had any problems with is any childrens shampoo. I use the loreal kids range, because the are mild and gentle for childrens heads i find that it is much better for me. plus they come in a range of smells that certainly get people talking, especially being a guy and smelling of strawberry or cherry. hehehehe! I also find that rather than rubbing the hair dry, just pat it dry enough to get the excess water off and then let it dry naturally, then cool dry with a hairdryer as that used to irritate my skin if it was too hot.
try using aloe vera first, if it doesnt work go to a salon, ask for a hot oil. and actually some salons have treatments for this sort of thing.
    Neutrogena T Gel

Dry scalp and flakes, what shampoo should i use?

I think my scalp is dry so it tends to get really itchy at time (don't worry it's not lice!) so i get a lot of head flakes which is really annoying especially when i wear dark clothes. head and shoulders don't work for me so what hair product should i use?Dry scalp and flakes, what shampoo should i use?
okay, i recently found the best way to get rid of dandruff:

    check out

    http://www.hairoil.com/

Oil in your hair is a great way to keep moisture and nutrients in your hair, but you don't need to order some from this website: coconut oil mixed with olive oil is PERFECT. Massage your scalp with this combo, leave it in for about half an hour (tie up your hair loosely so its not in your face), then wash your hair with head and shoulders.

Then, wash your hair the next day, even if you normal wait a day before washing it again. But make sure you use a shampoo and condionter set that contains tea tree oil (like nature's gate tea tree oil shampoo and condionter for dry, dandruff hair, found at wholefoods or http://www.natures-gate.com/) and massage your scalp with that.

When you come out of the shower, it will be a NOTICEABLE difference and you will LOVE it! and all of this is a natural way to make your hair nicer, shinier, less itchy, and no dandruff! (you can always use a leave-in conditonter after you wash your hair, like garnier fructis sleek and shine finish or sunsilk has a large variety to make your hair smell better after the tea tree)Dry scalp and flakes, what shampoo should i use?
Any shampoo that says for dry hair.. and specially you want one for dandruff. maybe try a different style of head and shoulders.
mane %26amp; tail or bedhead are both really good products.

Why didn't my doctor suggest nizorelle from the begining i do not know but believe me IT WORKSWhat is a good shampoo to use for dry scalp or maybe psoriasis?
Alphosil is supposed to be very good. Sorry not sure if I have spelt it right. What is a good shampoo to use for dry scalp or maybe psoriasis?
    Polytar or head and shoulders

if Polytar dont work go and see ur doctor they will be able to prescribe something stronge and i think you can get tablets now too
Nizarell. A bit pricey but works straight away.
    head and shoulders..
I have psoriasis and use either polytar from my doctor or one called Meted it works my partner gets dandruff so he keeps swagging it and it clears it up and keeps it away
I use Oilatum for my psoriasis beats Tgel!
i have my own business in aloe vera and bee products and i have many customers who buy our aloe vera shampoo which does the trick for them the shampoo's and conditioners first ingredient is aloe vera, it is not like the one you buy in the shops where they add one drop and then say contains aloe vera?
Aveda makes one just for the scalp
T-gel is ok. I would have your pharmacist order Ala-Seb. The prescribed stuff is better but the co-pay is ridiculous. I wouldn't even spend that much for designer shampoo.
i was prescribed t-gel many years ago, i stopped and use vosene and wash my hair less often than i used to , much better now.
T-Gel is good. You can find it at CVS Pharmacy or Walgreen's, and probably Walmart. My daughter has used it, and it works.
    t-gel
Listen to me!!!! T-gel is good but there is another called Alphosyl Two in One. Even though I am a man....Believe me this works........gino
When my baby got cradle cap (same thing)....I used baby oil and a toothbrush to remove the flakes and then I used T-Gel, I never had to treat her again
Poly tar and T-gel are both very good- my brother has a very dry scalp and these work a treat for him, but head and shoulders is next to useless.
I use Nizoral once a week, the rest of the week I use Head and Shoulders for sensitive scalps. I have psoriasis and since I started using both of these I no longer have the problem in my hair.
Try a Tea Tree shampoo. Tea Tree is used to heal almost everything and it is natural. Paul Mitchell has a good one, or health food stores have some too.
I am an alternative medicinal therapist and I can recommend ALOE VERA, it is best that you get it from a health store, There are many herbal remedies for this kind of problem, don't buy remedies from a chemist or your GP, chemical based preparations only make thing worse

    gloriashealth@btinternet.com
T-Gel. Worked wonders for my mothers Psoriasis.
    coaltar, ketaconazole, salicylic acid preparations.

What is a good shampoo and conditioner for dry scalp?

Help! I have a very dry scalp and have tried head and shoulders and it doesnt help. I dont know of any other shampoo and conditioner that would help. Any recommendations or ideas?

Also, my hair is in need of a trim bad. Um... does any one on here like great clips? would you recommend I go to one? if not great clips, please give me a name of a hair salon and I will see if there is one out by where I live.

    Thank you for your help.

If Head and Shoulders is not working, you should ask your doctor about it. It may have to do with your dietary habits. Also, talks to your hair stylist. What is a good shampoo and conditioner for dry scalp?
Bio silk is very good for a dry scalp...it is a little pricey so try getting it on EBay..it is cheaper there.
    Cream of Nature

or Kera Kare Shampoo and Deep Conditioners

The thing is, with Kera Kare you have to have a beautician's card to purchase it at Sally's and at most other beauty suppliers.
Well i dont know about the shampoo, but honey i warn you to stay away from great clips!!!

Sure it may be very cheap, but you get what you pay for...

If you want to get a good haircut, go to a local salon.. it will be more expensive, but defenetly worth it.

Most chain hair salons should be avoided!!

    Good luck!

  • Is there any good shampoo that combats oily scalp ?

pls help me . i have oily scalp .. i need something i can buy in singapore and not online .. or maybe some other remedies that can help ? thanksIs there any good shampoo that combats oily scalp ?
It's called Motions at Home Lavish Conditioning Shampoo (I think!). It comes in an orange and purple bottle. It seems to get the scalp clean without drying the hair at all.

    Good Remedies:

I have the same problem... here is how I have solved it to some degree. I don't use a conditioner... or a shampoo that has a conditioner in it. My sister has dry hair and scalp and I am very careful not to use her stuff...

I use just a simple gel shampoo and I wash my hair once lathering it up really good and rinsing it out first thing. Then I lather it up once again with some more and leave it in my hair and on my scalp the whole time I am showering. At the very end of the shower I take the shower (removable nozzle) and set it to a focused stream and wash away the later on my head. The extra time the soap sits on my head seems to break down any surface oils and they wash away... does the trick.

You might also want to think about doing a hot oil or deep conditioning treatment once a week or so. And/or using Neutrogena shampoo (the original) once a week.

Try it and let me know if it worked for you.

For health of the hair and scalp is lotioning hair after a shampoo in the shower a good thing?

Is this an obvious hair-care one I am missing? For health of the hair and scalp is lotioning hair after a shampoo in the shower a good thing?
Never heard that before. For health of the hair and scalp is lotioning hair after a shampoo in the shower a good thing?
    thank you Report Abuse

I would not use lotion just because of build up. thats why they make leave in conditioner for hair and scalp its like regular conditioner except leave in you don't rinse out and both kinds are your ';Lotion'; for the hair
Only if the lotion is made for hair. Not body lotion.

What is the best shampoo/conditioner to use when you have dry itchy scalp?

well this isn't a shampoo or conditioner but Dr. Miracle works pretty well it's call gro oil makes your scalp feel really good

    hope this help
Wheatgerm shampoo/conditioner. But there is a home remedy for this problem. Take a cup of fenugreek seeds and soak them in water for a couple of hours. blend with water in a blender to get a paste. apply the paste in your scalp and let it remain for half an hour to 45 mins. Rinse without using any shampoo, preferably under a running tap and not shower. it is a great natural conditioner and is also a cleanser. Also try massaging some good oil like coconut, almond or any other that you may get in your country, in your scalp once a week and wrap your head in hot towels to allow your pores to open. Then wash with the fenugreek paste. You will see good results in a month. Your hair will be shiny and your scalp healthy. The key to keep naturally dry type of scalp free from itching is to wash it once a week or twice at the most if you must. But be sure that you oil your scalp atleast once a week before washing.

  • How do i get rid of shampoo buildup on my scalp??

i've noticed lately that the crown of my head seems really greasy cuz theres all this shampoo buildup on my scalp. i tried to scrub it in the shower but i couldn't get it out. suggestions??How do i get rid of shampoo buildup on my scalp??
Maybe your body doesn't like the shampoo you are using and you should change shampoo. Keep rinsing you head with water and see you doctor if it looks like it needs to be seen by a doctor. How do i get rid of shampoo buildup on my scalp??
I doubt that's shampoo building up there unless you don't rinse it well enough - you just have oily hair - try a more aggressive shampoo designed for ';deep cleaning'; or ';oily hair';.

To balance the scalp: What is a good way to remove scalp oil besides shampoo?

You can always just rub your scalp with some muslin between shampoos to remove grease and build-up. Wrap a piece of muslin around your finger and rub your scalp, adjusting the cloth so that you're always using a clean piece.

Does over-washing your hair with harsh shampoo cause a dry scalp?

like the rule that the dryer you MAKE your face (using harsh products, over-washing) the more oil your skin produces to make up for it. does that apply to your scalp as well, lets say you over-wash your hair, does your scalp produce more oil to make up for it?Does over-washing your hair with harsh shampoo cause a dry scalp?
No actually if you over wash your hair with harsh products youll be losing some of your natural oil thats in the scalp and this can make your hair very dry.Does over-washing your hair with harsh shampoo cause a dry scalp?
for healthier hair and skin it is best that you wash your body and hair every other day...

you can wash yourself everyday if you'd like but just make sure that your hair is washed every other day or every other two days...

and yes, harsh shampoo causes dry scalp because your hair needs its oil to be moisturized and healthy, which too much shampoo, conditioner, water and hair products may reduce.
No you just dry out your hair make it brittle and split ends,You should not wash your hair every day but you can condition it every day,
Yeah, It does. It also strips your hair of it's natural oils. It won't produce more oils.
no not really you will mess up your hair to put oil in well to to much

try one that is a cleansing shampoo. it will be gentle enough to use everyday. however if at all possible try washing every other day instead. i use neutrogena shampoo and conditioner.

Any good shampoo will work - remember the harsher the shampoo will only strip the scalp and make Your Oily scalp worse. Cheers M8
I've been told that when you wash your hair, don't use conditioner on the scalp, just the ends. It makes your hair oilier if you condition the scalp.
I use pantene pro v. but one thing u have to remember is do not i repeat do not rub conditioner into your scalp just put it on the ends
I go to a hair salon to buy mine, just ask them whats best and buy it. Something with a low PH balance and not heavily scented. GOOGLE it
It really depends if you want to spend alot of money or a little. If you want to spend I recommend Paul Mitchell extra dry Hawaiian scented and get a deep cleaner at a beauty shop once a month and if you like a Little shine get a polish as well. If you want to conserve money I think Suave extra dry with a hot oil treatment you can buy at your local store. Good luck
I will recommend you head and shoulders.

Please only respond to this question if you have used this shampoo.Does Head %26amp; shoulder shampoo really keep the scalp and hair follicles clean?
no and yes it keeps your scalp clean. your hair follicle lies benieth your scalp where the hair root lies and not much penetrates to their. if you have dry scalp try paul mitchell tea tree shampoo or redken dandruff shampoo if you are just looking for cleansing try nioxin. they are salon based so they wont dry your hair out.Does Head %26amp; shoulder shampoo really keep the scalp and hair follicles clean?

What kind of baby shampoo can I used for dry scalp?

My daughter has dandruff in her scalp and currently I am using the Johnsons baby shampoo. What other shampoo can I used on her hair that is safe for babies and help with the dandruff and the flakes? and what store can I buy it at? ThanksWhat kind of baby shampoo can I used for dry scalp?
that shampoo is best... the suggestions my son's pediatrician gave us was this:

    1) Rub baby oil into her scalp %26amp; let it sit. Gently scrape her scalp to remove the dry skin

If you are still having problems....

    2) Use an old toothbrush and scrub an adult dandruff shampoo onto her scalp. Let that sit. Carefully wash it off (obviously adult dandruff shampoo isn't tearfree so be really careful)

This seemed to work pretty well for my son. Good luck. (You'll probably have to repeat one or both of these at least once weekly. What kind of baby shampoo can I used for dry scalp?
If it's cradle cap-- Selsun Blue.
Try Cetaphil (blue label). It was a recommedation of my children's pediatrian. You can use it with or without water and is great for the whole body, especially dry skin. It is found in about all stores. Walmart has a generic version of it too.
My daughter's pediatrician had me buy Head %26amp; Shoulders shampoo. It works really well. My daughter hasn't had a flake in a long while. You have to be careful not to get it into their eyes, but I normally put a little bit on one of the baby washcloths, and rub onto her head that way.

Added: My daughter is 10 weeks old, and has been using Head and Shoulders since she was 3 weeks old.
I tried different baby shampoos for my son, they either didn't work or only worked temporarily. The best tip I got (which worked) was to make sure I was rinsing his hair with clean water, not the soapy water in the tub, it was gone in a week. He's six now and I still make sure that his hair is rinsed in clean running water and it's never returned.
when my daughter was about 5 months old she had really bad eczema, to include dry skin on her scalp. a dermatologist told me to use a very small amount of adult dandruff shampoo on her head every once in a while, not every day and make sure you dont get it in her eyes. if your baby is younger than that i would ask a doctor first
In order to avoid overly drying out the little one's skin, you might want to keep her baths down to 2 or 3 a week. Also, research your baby care products as infant skin is extremely sensitive and needs to most gentle products out there. Many baby care products (including wash and lotions) contain ingredients such as fragrance and mineral oil, the molecular structure of which is too large to penetrate the pores of skin, sitting on the top layer like saran wrap. Mineral oil is actually motor oil washed several times to make it clear. These products may cause irritation and dryness and get wiped off over time and give little to no benefit but rather a temporary feeling of softness. Baby's need pure, and safe water based products with the proper ingredients.

Arbonne has a great baby care line (hair and body wash, lotion, body oil, diaper rash cream, and sunscreen) that is botanically-based and pH correct, pediatrician and dermatologist tested, non-sensitizing, non-irritating, and formulated without nut oils. They are formulated with natural ingredients like oat flour which is an emollient and an emulsifier. It鈥檚 highly absorbent and hypoallergenic. Oat flour helps to soothe and soften dry, itchy and sensitive skin. I use Arbonne's baby care products on both of my children and have never had a problem with dry, irritated skin.

If you're open to trying a free sample, I'll be happy to send you one.
When my baby was only a few months old, my doctor told me to use Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp. It worked wonders and he hasn't had a flake for over 6mo. I use it every night. Its not tear free so you need to be careful not to get it in the eyes. I also used the little plastic brush that we got from the hospital when he was born...it helps to gently scrub all the dry skin off. (I was using Johnson's and the Dr. said to stop and use the H%26amp;S) At the beginning I also put Aveno on his head after his bath.
my baby had what appeared to be dandruff but I treated it like cradle cap because everyone said it must be cradle cap. After the brushing and brushing and washing it has mostly gone away. I think dandruff and cradle cap might be two names for the same thing. So maybe try baby oil and a brush until you rub off the flakes, then wash with shampoo.
Cradle cap or dandruff? It's more likely to be cradle cap, if she's a newborn. Aveeno, Burt's Bees, Johnson's and Gerber make baby shampoo, and you can buy an infant scrub-brush and gently scrub her head in circular motions when bathing her. You didn't mention her age. If she's older, it may be caused by some of the shampoo remaining in her hair and drying-in which case L'Oreal Kids makes really good shampoo-just use a small amount of it. And- really no one should wash their hair daily.

    Hope some of this helps.
Burt's Bees Apricot Baby Oil worked really well on my daughter's cradle cap. I put it on and rubbed it in a bit with my fingers after we'd given her a bath, then I combed out the flakes. It was gone within a few days.
don't wash her hair every day. is she an infant? is this cradle cap? you can put baby oil on her scalp and brush it through with one of those very soft baby brushes. If that's what it is, just let it run it's course.

Hi, you can try one of the natural treatments available on the market (just google ';natural treatment of scalp psoriasis';) Some of them do actually work. For my scalp psor. I use herbal cream by Champori quite successfully. It takes just a couple of weeks to clear the spots and they then stay clear for months on end.

Try it: Champori comes with money back guarantee so if it doesn't work - it's free.

StellaWhat is the best shampoo for scalp Psoriasis?
The main cause of psoriasis is overreaction of the immune system. I try to eat healthy food and avoid stress as much as I can in order to prevent flare-ups.

After using number of prescription drugs I've turned to the natural treatments.

Now I use for my plaque psoriasis herbal remedies from serenaskin.com, which aim at the root of the disease - the immune system, and are steroid-free.

After about 2 weeks of using ointment and spray my skin has been cleared up and now I just continue with anti-psoriasis extract, which controls the immune system. My skin has been clear for months now.

It is the only treatment I have found that provides me complete relief when I use it as directed.
Try one of these organic, all natural soap and shampoo bars. You can use the soap bars to wash your hair as well. It will neutralize your scalp psoriasis on first application. My friend has Psoriasis all over and this soap neutralized his entire body (no flakes, no itching). They will give you free sample to try if you like just to get the word around.

  • Any shampoo brands that have helped oily scalp/dry ends and some hair loss?

I guess I have combination hair- scalp gets oily and itchy really fast, while ends can get dry and knotty. I heard stuff like Kerastase's ';Bain Divalent'; or Senscience have helped some folks. Any ppl here w/proven-to-help experiences, please share your thoughts. I just ordered Body Shop's Kettle Oil Balancing Shampoo- supposed to decrease oil the natural way instead of all these alcohols that in the end cause more oil secretion.

THank you.Any shampoo brands that have helped oily scalp/dry ends and some hair loss?
I have just the shampoo %26amp; conditioner for you: Aussie Cleanse %26amp; Mend. It is made especially for hair that's greasy at the top and dry at the bottom. I have a friend who uses it and says it works really well.Any shampoo brands that have helped oily scalp/dry ends and some hair loss?
Hair loss is normal. Each individual hair actually has a growth cycle. You can safely lose up to 100 hairs a day.

With that in mind, considering your hair condition, you should aim to use shampoo that's specialised for oily scalps, and a moisturising conditioner -but put it on your ends only - not on your roots.

De Lorenzo Scalp Balance is a great shampoo to regulate oil levels on the scalp, and is formulated for a variety of scalp conditions (but smells pleasant).

Whilst KMS does a great moisture and shine range - so i recommend their conditioners.

Does a bald man use soap or shampoo to wash their scalp?

Soap, it removes stuff that shampoo can't.

Basically you would treat your head like your face.

Shampoo is a lighter and less harsher substance than soap so it doesn't clean as well and it doesn't remove the old dead skin as well as soap can.

    According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shampoo

';Shampoo cleans by stripping sebum from the hair. Sebum is an oil secreted by hair follicles that is readily absorbed by the strands of hair, and forms a protective layer. Sebum protects the protein structure of hair from damage, but this protection comes at a cost. It tends to collect dirt, styling products and scalp flakes. Surfactants strip the sebum from the hair shafts and thereby remove the dirt attached to it.

While both soaps and shampoos contain surfactants, soap bonds to oils with such affinity that it removes too much if used on hair. Shampoo uses a different class of surfactants balanced to avoid removing too much oil from the hair.

The chemical mechanisms that underlie hair cleansing are similar to that of traditional soap. Undamaged hair has a hydrophobic surface to which skin lipids such as sebum stick, but water is initially repelled. The lipids do not come off easily when the hair is rinsed with plain water. The anionic surfactants substantially reduce the interfacial surface tension and allow for the removal of the sebum from the hair shaft. The non-polar oily materials on the hair shaft are solubilised into the surfactant micelle structures of the shampoo and are removed during rinsing. There is also considerable removal through a surfactant and oil ';roll up'; effect. The foamy effect achieved by massaging shampoo into the hair is purely aesthetic.

    According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soap

';Soaps are useful for cleaning because soap molecules attach readily to both nonpolar molecules (such as grease or oil) and polar molecules (such as water). Although grease will normally adhere to skin or clothing, the soap molecules can attach to it as a ';handle'; and make it easier to rinse away. Applied to a soiled surface, soapy water effectively holds particles in suspension so the whole of it can be rinsed off with clean water.

(fatty end) :CH3-(CH2)n - COONa: (water soluble end)

    The hydrocarbon (';fatty';) portion dissolves dirt and oils, while the ionic end makes it soluble in water. Therefore, it allows water to remove normally-insoluble matter by emulsification.';

Shampoo is designed to ONLY wash hair, if you have even a little hair then you need to wash that with soap. Washing your hair with soap dries it out and damages it.Does a bald man use soap or shampoo to wash their scalp?
Usually soap, till the moment you dont have hair, depending on the amount of hair left, if its quite a bit, then using shampoo, but if less, soap does just right!!!Does a bald man use soap or shampoo to wash their scalp?
My dad has been bald for many years and he has always used soap. When I was young, I asked him why he used soap....he said, ';Shampoo is for washing hair and I don't have any.'; LOL
I used to shave my head (briefly) but now I have a regular head of hair, and either way I just use regular bar soap to wash it. The main difference between shampoo and regular soap is just texture and packaging, it all does the same function.

And every bald guy I know just uses regular soap.
    neither, dish washing liguid .

Are shampoo and conditioner bad for your scalp?

I put on Pantene shampoo/conditioner this morning and walked out the door and forgot about it. Would it be harmful to leave it on till the end of work? I think it's feeling itchy already. Are shampoo and conditioner bad for your scalp?
As long as you don't leave it in for more than 24 hours, it should be okay, but your scalp could feel extremely irritated and you will probably see pieces of dried up shampoo in your hair. Are shampoo and conditioner bad for your scalp?
Everyone has different type's of hair. Some shampoos are meant for thick hair, others for thin, others for curly. It depends on what type of hair you have. It's not necesserily bad but some shampoos may cause your scalp to get dry, get flakes and hurt if its not meant for your type of hair. Also, you are not supposed to leave on shampoos/conditioners for a long time. You are supposed to rinse it out. That is why you are getting all itchy.
no just remember to rise it out next time. Oh my mum had a bad reaction to pantene a few years back and she never used it since. i wouls strongly recommand staying away from herbal essences that complety weraked my hair and i had a bald patch in the front of my head.

i would wash the hair with gentle shampoo like baby shampoo and than i would give the panete a break for a few days.
....did you wash it out? O_o

you're nto supposed to just put it on without washing it out.

I use Pantene Pro V all the time and my scalp itches sometimes but I doubt it is the shampoo/conditioner. [I have dandruff %26gt;_%26lt;]

I'm not quite sure. Of course shampoo/conditioner isn't bad for your scalp! [maybe if you dont wash it out...]
Pantene is Bad for your hair and I've heard has been known to cause hair loss. Shampoo is good for your hair as long as you don't wash your hair everyday. Otherwise you will take away the natural oils in your hair that protect it.
try to remove it with a wet towel.....something will come out...

and go to the doctor you must be on a lot of stress or else to forgot about something simple you do everyday..take care...
It won't be harmful, but it will make your skin feel dry and itchy and you might see specs of shampoo in your hair so I would wash it out really soon.
Everyone's hair is different, so it's hard to say. Don't take chances. Rinse it out as soon as you get a chance.

maybe you are allergic to it and you should stop using it,,,,After using dove shampoo i noticed on my scalp theses lil red dots what is that?
Dove products caused my periods to stop and my hair to fall out (Ammonium Xylene-Sulfonate) and caused blisters on my spouse's hands and scalp (Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate). It took us a years to figure out what was causing it, but it's better now that we stopped using it. Xenoestrogens are bad. Report Abuse

Go Organic... ask the sales assistant from any organic store to recommend an organic shampoo and conditioner.
The Champori cream and spray worked better than anything else on my eczema (scalp, hands and back of knees). My patches cleared in just 2.5 weeks and I haven't had a flare up in more than a year now. Your friend should try it (it comes with a money back guarantee so there is nothing to lose)

    Best,

What's a good shampoo (or treatment) for oily scalp?

This is the thing - my hair is sort of dry, except for my scalp. What's a good shampoo, shampoo - conditioner or home remedy for this?

Thank youWhat's a good shampoo (or treatment) for oily scalp?
I never had oily hair until just recently. (2 weeks ago) It was sticky only on top and very oily. After I tried different shampoos and had no results, I went to the doctor and they told me to go see a dermatologist. It would be a month before I could get in and I didn't want to wait! Anyway, I went to CVS and bought NEUTROGENA T/GEL. It's a Therapeutic shampoo that comes in different strengths! I got the 4% and WOW! IT WORKS! The smell is horrible but it worked after one wash. OH, and use conditioner only on the ends of your hair. Hope this helps. What's a good shampoo (or treatment) for oily scalp?
many shampoos made for oily scalp unfortunately strip the hair as well. i would recommend seeing your stylist. i used to use a shampoo by matrix that needed no conditioner. it was amazing. but, if you don't want to pay top dollar i'd recommend a mild shampoo with a light spray in conditioner taking care to avoid spraying near the scalp.

oh, and avoid suave and other very low end products. they will really damage the ends of your hair.

How do you get rid of a dry flakey scalp without using dandruff shampoo/conditioner?

A great one is Petroleum Jelly. You can get it from any grocery store. It helps any kind of dry flakey skin! Trust me.How do you get rid of a dry flakey scalp without using dandruff shampoo/conditioner?
I love doing this once a week:

-Shampoo hair (or I guess you can just use water)

-Massage aloe vera gel onto the scalp, trying to avoid most of the hair

-Pour warm olive oil onto the scalp, letting it run down the ends of your hair(it's easiest to do all of this over a large sink or tub)

-Use saran wrap (plastic wrap) to cover your entire scalp and hair

-Place a shower cap over the plastic wrap then for extra insulation wrap a towel around the cap

    -Leave in for 20-40 minutes

-Don't shampoo after this, just rinse

-Use a conditioner if you want

fyi, this only works on dry dandruff, not oily dandruff!!!How do you get rid of a dry flakey scalp without using dandruff shampoo/conditioner?
I've always had a problem with dandruff and what finally worked for me was tea tree oil. You can add it to any shampoo. 10 or 20 drops or so and mix it all together, try that and see if it works.
I used to use baby oil. I would massage my scalp with it and then shampoo it out. Now I use Neutrogea T Sal. It's amazing, but since you said you didn't want any dandruff shampoo I guess try the baby oil.
using any type of sheen or oil base spray
